A growing problem makes the population sick in Switzerland
According to the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) in Neuchâtel, the percentage of overweight and obese people in the Swiss population has never been higher. More than 11% of men and 9.2% of women in our country are overweight and the problem is getting worse every year. In 2017, more than 2 million people in Switzerland were overweight or obese.
The FSO recently published the latest Swiss Health Survey, which polled people over the age of 15 living in private households. The results were alarming and can be seen in the charts. More than 50% of the adult male population is either overweight or obese and for women the percentage is 32%.
The negative trend seems to worsen with each year that the Swiss Health Survey is published.
The disturbing increase in overweight and obesity in Switzerland has many negative consequences for the population. The most serious of these is the significant increase in deaths and hospitalizations due to cardiovascular disease in the male population.
Diabetes experiences an explosive increase
As a result of overweight and obesity, diabetes cases in Switzerland are increasing in both sexes and in all age groups. There is an alarming increase in the population over 55 and the trend is expected to continue for generations to come if no serious changes take place.
Healthy weight loss is the solution to the problem
The increasing consumption of bread and dairy products, combined with an unhealthier lifestyle with less physical activity, is the main cause of the problems described.
Various studies have documented that significant weight reduction for overweight and obese people over the age of 18 leads to significant improvements in health and life expectancy.
Changing one's lifestyle significantly can be a major challenge, but fortunately in 2017, the development of high-quality dietary supplements that promote weight loss, stimulate metabolism and contribute to a healthier lifestyle is possible.
Diet programs should always be accompanied by a healthier lifestyle to achieve optimal and faster results.
